A visit with the Redwoods

How I recently spent a quiet afternoon with some Redwoods

Recently I set out to photograph with my Deardorff 5×7 camera.  The intention was to go visit a specific picturesque State park along the Coast of California.  Well, you know what they say about best laid plans.  In the last few days since my previous photo safari it seems that the State and Local Governments had blocked off access to all public lands.  I cannot say I blame them.  The last time I was out I had witnessed way too many people and animals congregating/socializing in largish groups.

Anyway, I started my journey home and decided to let GPS take me the “Long” way through some very narrow and twisty two-lane roads that ran predominantly through old Redwood Growth.

Along the side of the road I came across a wide turn-out edged by gnarly and partially fire damage Redwood trees and Redwood stumps.  It was like I had discovered a whole beautiful microcosm of shapes, plants, spiderwebs and other objects of beauty.

With dense forest above me, the light that filtered through had a very beautiful quality.  The images below are some of my favorite shots from that afternoon.

Thank you for allowing me to share them with you!
